top of page HOME ABOUT US OUR BOARD MISSION COMMUNITY GIVING DONATE EVENTS From his days as a school teacher in Alaska to his duty as the longest-serving member of the current Congress - 49 years, 13 days - U.S. Representative Don Young spent his adult life working for the great people of Alaska. His service ended March 18 when he passed away en route from Washington, DC, to his beloved Alaska with his wife, Anne Garland Walton, by his side. When asked by a New York Times reporter in 2020 how long he planned to serve, Congressman Young said, “God will decide that, or the voters.” The Congressman worked to improve the lives of Alaska’s Native children with his first wife, Lu Young, by his side for 46 of those years. Lu Young, a Gwich’in Athabascan Native from Fort Yukon, AK, eight miles above the Arctic Circle, preceded the congressman in death in 2009. The Lu Young Children’s Fund was created in 2004 to leave a legacy of support for Alaska’s Native children and their families.
